The Edterra TMS Heritage Quiz was organized on 28 August 2009 in “The Millennium School”, Noida, with a view to promoting awareness among the students of classes V to VII on HERITAGE, which stands for History, Environment, Recreation, Information, Technology, Travel, Astronomy, Geography and Economy.
The quiz was a roaring success, as it witnessed participation from more than 160 students from 23 schools across the country. The event saw some brilliant quizzing and nail-biting competition between the participating teams.
The esteemed guests for the day were Shaolin master Shifu Shi Yan Fang, a 34th generation Shaolin Warrior Monk and Shifu Kanishka Sharma, the first Indian to be trained at the Shaolin Temple.
Adorning traditional dresses, the kindergarten kids welcomed the guests, students and teachers from the participating schools. The students of class I performed Saraswati Vandana followed by Krishna Stuthi as a further welcome gesture.
The Principal, Ms Rita Kaul, extended her warm welcome to Shaolin master Shifu shi yan fang and Shifu Kanishka Sharma and to all students, teachers, and Educomp and Edterra members. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of ancient civilisation and quoted Iqbal, "Unan mistral roman sab mit gaye jahan se kuch bat hai ki hasti mitti nahi hamari sadiyon raha hai dushman daure jahan hamara." She thanked the Edterra team. Edterra team has joined hands with TMS, Noida, and plans to bring a revolutionary education change by designing a complimentary outdoor adventure learning experience to strengthen the skill and knowledge of students in a fun and exciting manner.
Shaolin master Shifu Shi Yan Fang and Shifu Kanishka Sharma demonstrated unbelievable feats of Kung-Fu mastery and made the day memorable with their awesome performance.
The quiz commenced right after the spellbinding Kung-Fu performance. Students were evaluated through Preliminary, Heritage, Multiple Intelligence, and Rapid Fire rounds.
In the first round of the quiz, the participants contested in an objective-type written test consisting of 24 questions. The eight highest-scoring teams were shortlisted for the next round, that is, the Heritage Round. Two contenders were nominated as members of the EdTerra TMS Heritage Quiz team to take the stage and represent their respective schools.
The Heritage Round addressed the areas covered under history, environment, recreation, information technology, travel, astronomy, geography and economy. Mr Aditya, the quizmaster for the day, kept the audience and teams at the edge of their seats with the innovative and interesting questions that tested the teams not only on their understanding but presence of mind, teamwork and decision making as well. Despite facing stiff competition, the contestants responded confidently to the quiz questions and exhibited their vast knowledge.
The three highest-scoring teams— Chiranjiv Bharti School (Sushant Lok, Gurgaon), Modern Vidya Niketan (Aravali) and Modern Vidya Niketan (Faridabad)—went on to Round 3. This was an aptitude round that dealt with multiple intelligence in areas such as English, nature, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence, mathematical and logical reasoning.
Chiranjiv Bharti School (Sushant Lok, Gurgaon) and Modern Vidya Niketan (Aravali) from the third round battled it out in the final round- the Rapid Fire. The excitement amplified with this round. CBS Sushant Lok won the quiz by answering lightening fast the questions thrown to them and garnered the audience’s appreciation.
The quiz came to an end with the prize distribution. The prizes were distributed by Shifu Shi Yan Fang and Shifu Kanishka Sharma in the midst of loud cheers and applause for a spectacular performance. Rhittik and Samir, the winners of Edterra Cup said, "We will never forget this day for our entire lives."
Ms Rita Kaul congratulated the students and teachers for an outstanding performance. Ms Anshu Gupta, Teacher (MVN, Faridabad), said, "I am happy that EdTerra and the Millennium School have started an event of this kind. It is important for children to be able to take part in such events as it helps them to be sure of themselves in different environments. We will definitely be back next year."
