Government of Orissa
BiCEP (Biju Patanaik Computer-Aided Education Programme)
Educomp Solutions Ltd is implementing BiCEP in 300 Primary and Uppper Primary Govt.
Schools across 12 Districts in Orissa under the aegis of OPEPA(Orissa Primary Education
and Programme Authority). These schools have been carefully chosen by OPEPA from
each block in each of the chosen districts. Each of these schools is given 3 Computer
Systems, 3 UPS, and 1 Printer. Hence Educomp has supplied total 900 computers, 900
UPS, and 300 printers in this project. The electrification and other infrastructure
like furniture etc have been managed by the respective schools.
The scope of the project encompasses Class V, VI and VII to be covered under Computer
Aided Learning. These classes learn their topics on certain “hard spots” in Math,
Science, English and Computer Science through computers. These hard spots are the
topics which are difficult to explain in the classroom without the use of proper
teaching aid. Educomp is developing CD-ROMs on 42 such topics in Oriya language.
The teachers handling these classes are trained by Educomp Solutions Ltd. to undertake
technology-aided lessons. Educomp has trained 600 teachers so far. These teachers
are using computers as a teaching tool and are very excited about the same. The
program was formally launched by Orissa Chief Minister Shri Navin Patanaik on 5th
September 2004.
The program is running successfully in all the schools . The government plans to
increase the scope of this program to another 150 schools shortly.
A significant part of the engagement with Orissa has been the development of content
for Mathematics, Science, English and Computer Science for classes 5 to 7.
