History Lesson - Std VI
Topic: Indus Valley Civilization
Using Inquiry Based Learning Approach
Observation
The teacher brings a few photos of the Egyptian Pyramids and displays it in the
class. Students observe the pictures and identify them as belonging to the Egyptian
civilization. The teacher then asks the class if they knew about any such ancient
civilization of our country. Class will identify “Indus Valley Civilization”. In
case the class cannot come up with the right answer, the teacher gives clues saying
that the civilization in question had the name of one of the major rivers of North
India.
Hypothesizing
The teacher asks the class to write down in logical sequence, all the possible questions
regarding this civilization, which will help them in framing a hypothesis.
Consequently, the class can note down on the chalkboard, all known facts about the
Indus Valley people, based on previous knowledge.
