Mentoraide is the platform for online tutoring developed by Educomp. Mentoraide
uses Java technology to enable students to be remotely tutored. Recognising the
fact that many users of the platform may not be very computer savvy and could be
young learners, mentoraide uses a whiteboard and stylus system in which both the
teacher and the student can write on a digital whiteboard using a stylus pen which
is akin to writing on a notebook. This enables the tutoring experience to be more
real and natural.
Mentoraide: The Service and Tech
We believe math is learned by doing problems. Therefore we have designed
a web-based mentoring service designed to encourage students to do more problems
and become better and better at math.
There are three key aspects of our offering:
 |
Math Tutoring: The student can ask a tutor to help them with specific
problems from the textbook followed in class. Learners and tutors will interact
one-on-one over an online whiteboard, where both can write (using a stylus pen)
just as they would on a real whiteboard. The tutor will guide the learner through
the solution-not just tell the solution to student. The intent is that the student
should be able to do a similar problem independently.
|
 |
Mentoring: A mentor is responsible for the progress of 30 students
in our program. A mentor will review the tutoring sessions and spot learning difficulties
of the student. The mentor will check whether the student has benefited from the
tutoring session by asking the student to take a personalized objective type test.
A mentor will work with student advisors and parents to ensure the progress of students
in their math class.
|
 |
MathRating: MathRating is a rating and reward system. The MathRating
of a student is an indicator of the learners’ efforts at improving math. It rewards
effort and encourages a learner to learn more math by doing more problems. The mentor
is responsible for ensuring that the MathRating of students goes up. The rating
system can be used by administrators in judging whether our program really works,
and in quantifying the progress made by their students.
