The Current Educational System
A deep-rooted reality of today's educational system and society is that
children carry a heavy load in terms of education, expectations of the parents and
society on their fragile shoulders. When one sits down and analyzes, the realization
dawns that our children are actually going nowhere. They are only undergoing a system
of learning by rote and that would definitely not take them too far. One of the
widely accepted gaps in the current educational system is that, there is more emphasis
on `knowing' rather than on learning.
What education should be…
Tomorrow is going to be an age where problem solving, leadership, team management
and working within teams will be the order of the day. The future of the society
depends on the ability of its children to think analytically and creatively, and
to be lifelong learners. It is important to instill all these qualities in children
when they are young enough, as habits begin early, especially thinking habits. Children
must acquire the skill of how to learn, rather than being overwhelmed with a large
amount of information, and must enjoy the process of learning, so that what is learnt
is retained.
