Philosophy:
Our ancient schools and probably the first schools were held in the natural
surroundings and under a tree. For us a tree symbolizes a school, which provides
the child with the culturally appropriate environment, values, love and protection
needed for the child to grow healthily in body, mind and spirit. Since the tree
is a branch from a single root, we believe that pre-schools are the first educational
level for the child where the roots are established, so it is imperative to start
off on the right foot. It is here that the child’s roots are nurtured and nourished.
These roots grow strong and from it emerges the wings of freedom, confidence, creativity,
dreams and this shapes the future of the child. Based on this philosophy we have
named our curriculum `Roots to Wings’.
To achieve our philosophy we have set our goals on realistic achievable targets.
The pre/kindergarten program is grounded on scientific principles based on Child
Development. These principles are embodied in the curriculum design and general
learning environment. The instructional delivery is organized and responsive to
interactions with adults where opportunities are provided for children to acquire
skills and concepts involving problem solving, decision-making, questioning, evaluating
and discovering.
'Roots to Wings’ Curriculum
The ‘Roots to Wings’ curriculum has been developed to help educators meet the challenge
of providing qualitative care in all pre/kindergarten schools in India. The Curriculum
for two to five year old children has been designed to provide research-based strategies
that ensure high quality learning standards and outcomes. This programme has been
designed with the expertise and experience of a research team of Early Childhood
professionals and provides challenging and yet achievable activities that engage
children in higher-level thinking, exploration through guided play, and real conversations
with peers and adults.
Our curriculum is based on certain principles. We have borrowed from various schools
of thought on early childhood. In turn, the diagram below represents the prominent
schools of thought from which the `Roots to Wings’ curriculum has been borne. One
may take stock of the following approaches, based on whose best practices the ‘Roots
to Wings’ has evolved into an eclectic approach:
